Subaru has been known to make variants that hint back to racing history or track performance. Most of this effort has been concentrated on the WRX lineup. Take a look at the WRX Wikipedia page, and there's a plethora of history and world-rally referencing to be had. Like mama always said, "Life is like a box of Subarus--you never know what they're gonna come out with next."
The BRZ lineup has been particularly saturated thanks to badging--and re-badging--specifically the Toyota 86 and the Scion FR-S. This guy, though, the Series.Yellow, is like Frankenstein's monster making his own little pinewood derby car. And boy, does it get rowdy.
Subaru made the Charlesite Yellow specifically for this car, naming it after an extremely rare mineral that has been found in a handful of locations over the world. Under the hood, you'll find the same 2.0L turbo-charged boxer 4 that has been shared across many Subaru models. Thanks to the monster taking woodshop, he has done a couple fun things like Brembo brakes, 17-inch wheels, stiffer suspension, a Torsen limited-slip differential, an aluminum spoiler, and stabilizer bars in the front and the rear. Even the final drive changed from 4.1 to 4.3:1. The 6.2in center display inside also includes bluetooth. Should you galavant on a night drive in the cool Arizona fall, heated seats are available to indulge.
The result is a 0-60 in 6.2 seconds in a car that weighs less than 2800 pounds. It's a staggering number for a car competing with the soul that was left behind by Honda's S2000, and was dragged along by the Miata. A mere 45-horsepower increase from the Miata and the curb weight of the S2000 make this a modern treat for any enthusiast ready to wake up neighbors and shame American muscle.
It's rare, and this will be a Japanese collectible one day. It is, in the modern vernacular, "tastefully clapped."
