This is an impressive little trade-in. The previous owner of this vehicle was a Barrett-Jackson collector and has owned more than 230 different cars and had personal connections all over the place from Carroll Shelby himself to Craig Jackson, the owner of the Barrett-Jackson auction. While no service records were turned in, the car is in original condition. The car drives wonderful and would be a great entry-level classic car, or for the die-hard Mustang enthusiast looking for a Saturday morning cruiser.
SVT stands for Special Vehicle Team, and Ford put out all kinds of fun stuff on the SVT line. From 1991-2015, SVT was a performance arm of Ford, like Audi's S-line. It built weird things like a Focus from 02-04 and put proper meaning behind the 2010-14 Raptors. Larger output from stock engines and transmissions was the SVT specialty.
The Cobra was debuted in 1993 and pushed until 2007, when Ford returned to Shelby to produce the GT500. Power output on the 2001 model year increased from 260 hp for the Mustang GT to 320. Exterior trim changes include "COBRA" markings on the rear bumper, SVT center caps on the wheels, and the iconic Cobra logo on the front quarter panels. 0-60 times were clocked in at 5.4 seconds and a 1/4 mile time was 13.8 seconds at 102 mph. The best thing about the Cobra is the shift knob itself, which is almost like a Cobra head that is coiled in the upright position.
Incredibly, the SVT Cobras were somewhat hard-to-find. 3,867 coupes were built, and 3,384 convertibles were built. Finding one with the parchment roof is quite impressive, as only 131 were produced with the black/parchment/parchment configuration.
This Mustang is a great piece of history with an impressive owner resume and will surely knock your socks off. Just don't park it near a DeTomaso Mangusta. If you know, you know.
